Your table, working harder
A printed placemat protects your table, gives customers something to read, and promotes your specials while they wait. Paper placemats are also a popular way of keeping children busy with a puzzle or colouring page. Cafes, family restaurants, fish and chip shops and pubs all use them.
Types of placemat
- Paper placemats are single use, cost-effective and easy to change with the seasons. A3 is the usual size.
- Paper pads let you tear off one sheet at a time, which saves on storage.
- Laminated placemats wipe clean and last for months, so they suit high-footfall places.
- Cork-backed or hardboard mats feel premium and suit gifts and hotels.
- Personalised photo placemats can be a lovely gift for children, or a family present for Christmas.
What to print on them
For a restaurant, a placemat has plenty of room, so use it:
- Your menu or a selection of specials
- The story of your restaurant, or a local map
- A children's quiz, colouring-in or maze
- Offers for your next visit, with a code you can track
- A QR code for reviews or online booking
- Sponsored space for other local businesses, which may help to cover the cost
Try to make something people will actually want to look at. Too many offers can look cluttered. A single striking design with one offer can work much better.
Paper and stains
A paper mat may have food and liquid on it, so choose a good uncoated paper, which absorbs small spills rather than letting them run. Heavier paper feels better, but costs a little more. Laminated mats need to be wiped between each use, so check that your cleaning products will not damage the surface.
Kids' placemats
Children's activity mats can be printed in a single colour, which keeps the cost down and leaves room for colouring in. Add a kids' menu, and include your logo as part of the picture. Have crayons at the table and you will have a family customer who is more likely to return. Personalised children's placemats, with a name or a photo, make good gifts and can help at mealtimes.
Ordering
Tell us the size, how many and which type of mat you want. Your artwork is set up free of charge when we print the job. Short runs of paper mats can be printed locally and reprinted when the offers change. Larger orders and cork-backed mats may take longer. Send your artwork or wording and we will send you a proof.

What size is a printed placemat?
A3 (297 x 420 mm) is the standard size, and it fits most tables. Other sizes are available on request.
