Passport photos near you

We take passport and visa photographs at our shop on Gatton Road, a few minutes on foot from Tooting Broadway, with prices from £8. There is no need to book. Come in, tell us the country and document, and we will take and print them while you wait, usually within a few minutes. We check them against the size and rules for the document you need, so you do not risk your application being delayed by a rejected photo.

What UK passport photos require

For a UK passport application, your photos need to be 45 mm high and 35 mm wide, in colour, and taken in the last month. The main rules are:

  • A plain, light background
  • A neutral expression, with your mouth closed
  • Eyes open and clearly visible, and hair away from your eyes
  • No glasses, unless you have a medical reason (see the government's guidance)
  • No hat or head covering, unless worn for religious or medical reasons
  • No shadows on your face or behind you

When applying online, you will often need a digital photo instead of a printed one. Check your application carefully. HM Passport Office's rules apply to all applicants, and the final decision is theirs, not ours.

Visa and other document photos

Different countries and documents have different requirements. Please tell us what the photo is for, so that we can check the current size, background and other details. Common requests include:

Document Usual size
UK passport and driving licence 45 x 35 mm
Schengen visa 45 x 35 mm
USA visa or passport 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm)
Indian passport or visa Often 2 x 2 inches
Canadian passport 50 x 70 mm

These can change without notice, and some consulates are stricter than others. Check the embassy's or the visa centre's website before you visit, and bring any written instructions you have. Students, carers and people applying for residence permits should bring their paperwork with them too.

Baby and child photos

Babies and toddlers need passport photos too, and they can be harder to take. Please come in when your child is likely to be calm, such as after a feed or a nap. The rules for under-sixes are a little less strict: a child does not have to look directly at the camera or have a neutral expression, and babies under one do not need to have their eyes open. A baby must be photographed without toys or dummies, and without anyone's hands showing. We will do our best to get a usable photo, and it may help to call ahead.

Tips before you come in

  • Wear something plain, and in a colour that contrasts with the light background.
  • Remove your glasses, hair clips and any large jewellery.
  • Pull your hair away from your face.
  • Avoid heavy make-up, and try not to come straight from the gym.
  • Do not wear a uniform or something that looks like one.

Digital photos and codes

Many applications now need a digital photograph. Tell us if you are applying online, and we can talk through what is available and what you will need for your application. If a code or digital file is needed, we will explain the process and whether it is something we can provide for your document before we take the photo.

Other printing while you are here

If you are making an application, we can also photocopy your documents and print your forms and supporting documents at the same time, which can save you a second trip.
