Wristbands for entry, safety and fundraising
Wristbands are a quick visual check of who has paid, who is an adult and who has access to a particular area. Organisers use them for festivals, nightclubs, sports days, swimming sessions, school trips, hospital fundraisers and private parties. Silicone versions are also popular as charity awareness bands.
Which wristband do you need?
| Type | Feel | Lasts | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper-like (Tyvek) | Light, tear-resistant | A day or so | One-day events and pub nights |
| Vinyl | Sturdy, plastic | A few days | Multi-day events, water parks |
| Fabric | Comfortable, woven | Days to weeks | Festivals and premium events |
| Silicone | Soft and reusable | Months to years | Charity and awareness campaigns |
Security features
Tyvek bands have an adhesive closure that shows tampering when somebody attempts to remove it, while vinyl and fabric bands use locking clips. Sequential numbering helps with reconciling entries and spotting duplicates. A colour change for each day stops people reusing a band from the day before. Bands with a QR code or an NFC chip are possible for more advanced events, but these require a scanning system, so you need to plan for that early.
Design basics
The print area is long and narrow, so keep the message short. A logo, the event name and a date are about all that will fit. On a standard 25 mm Tyvek band, stick with bold type. Use dark text on a light background for the highest contrast at the door. If you have age groups or different access zones, use strong, simple colour differences rather than small text, because staff will be checking bands quickly in poor light.
Practical tips for the door
- Order extras, typically at least 5 to 10%, to allow for mistakes and spoilage.
- Practise fastening a Tyvek band. The sticky closure only works once.
- Keep bands dry and out of direct sun until the event.
- Fit the band so that one or two fingers can slide underneath, for comfort.
- Avoid putting personal information on them for child safety, unless your safeguarding plan requires it.
Ordering
Tell us your event's date, the numbers you need and the type you prefer. Artwork is set up free of charge when we print the job. Wristbands are typically made to order, so please allow extra time, particularly in festival season. Plain stock-coloured bands may be available faster if you are short of time. For your event's other materials, see entry tickets and posters.
Questions we hear about event wristbands
Which wristband is best for a one-day event?
Tyvek is light, inexpensive and tear-resistant, and its adhesive closure shows tampering.
Can wristbands be numbered?
Yes. Sequential numbering helps you count entries and spot duplicates.
Are Tyvek wristbands waterproof?
They handle splashes well, but they are not designed for long periods in water. Vinyl is a better choice for pools and water parks.
How many should I order?
Your expected headcount plus about 5 to 10% for mistakes and spoilage.
