A reusable alternative to wrapping paper
A canvas wine bag makes a bottle feel like a real gift and gives people something to reuse. Off-licences, wineries, restaurants and hotels sell or give them to customers, companies use them for client gifts, and couples order them for the wedding party. They are also popular at fundraisers and Christmas fairs.
Types of bag
| Type | Good for |
|---|---|
| Single-bottle cotton or canvas | Gifts and shop sales |
| Jute or hessian | Rustic look, weddings and farm shops |
| Two-, four- or six-bottle carrier | Shops, wineries and tasting events |
| Cooler or insulated bag | Picnics and premium gifts |
| Fabric drawstring | Budget option for events |
A standard single-bottle bag measures about 12 x 35 cm. If you are planning on giving magnums or champagne bottles, please check the size first, as they are wider than a normal wine bottle.
Printing and design
The tall, narrow panel suits a vertical logo or a short line of text. Screen printing is a good option for one or two colours, heat transfer is a good choice for small runs or names, and embroidery can look premium on heavier canvas. Hessian has a rough surface, which means that fine detail will not hold, so keep designs simple and bold. Natural-coloured canvas gives a traditional look, while black makes colours pop, although light inks may need a base layer.
Ideas for wording
- A personal gift: "Happy Anniversary, Sam and Alex" with a date
- For a wedding party: "Thanks for being our best man" or similar
- For a shop: your logo with a simple address
- For fundraising: the name of your event and year
Handling heavier items
Check the strength of the bag if you are selling it as a carrier. A full wine bottle is heavy, and thin material and weak stitching can give way. If a customer is carrying a heavy bottle, reinforced handles matter more than the print. Dividers are also important in multi-bottle bags, to prevent bottles from hitting each other.
Ordering
Tell us the bag type, your logo or wording, the number you need and your date. We set up the artwork free of charge when we print the job, and we will show you a proof. A short run or a one-off can often be arranged, but printed jute and specialist carriers can take longer. Combine with a custom bottle label or a wine box for a more complete gift.
Questions we hear about canvas wine bags
What size is a canvas wine bag?
Around 12 x 35 cm for a standard bottle. Champagne and magnums need a larger bag, so tell us what you are using.
Can I order just one personalised wine bag?
Often, yes, using a heat transfer. Tell us the wording and we will confirm.
Can you print on jute or hessian?
Yes, but the rough surface suits bold, simple designs better than fine detail.
Are the bags reusable?
Yes. Cotton and canvas bags can be used many times, and a well-made bag is more likely to stay in use.
