Saying thank you after a funeral
In the weeks after a funeral, many families want to thank the people who sent flowers, gave to charity, cooked meals or simply came along. A printed card makes that much easier, because the main message is already there and you need to add only a name or a short note. We can match it to the order of service so the design feels familiar.
Wording ideas
There is no right wording, and something short is perfectly fine. Here are some examples to adapt:
- "The family of [name] would like to thank you for your kindness, your cards and your support at this difficult time."
- "Thank you for your thoughts, your prayers and your presence. It meant more than we can say."
- "Thank you for the beautiful flowers, and for remembering [name] with us."
- "Your donation in memory of [name] has meant a great deal to all of us. Thank you."
Add a short handwritten note for those who gave particular help, and be sure to mention them by name. People understand if cards take time. There is no fixed date for sending them, so do not feel rushed.
Style and format
- Flat cards, A6 size, with a photograph and message on one side and space to write on the back
- Folded cards, with a photo on the front, a message inside, and space for a personal note
- A printed photo card showing a favourite picture of your loved one
An uncoated or matt card takes pen ink well, which is important if you plan to write something personal. Choose a matching envelope, and consider printing a return address on the flap.
Do you need a card for everyone?
Many families send one card per household, rather than to each person. It is also fine to thank a group at once, for example a workplace or a church. Sending an announcement through your local paper or social media is common too, for people you cannot reach. If you are finding the list hard, a family member or a friend might be glad to help.
Ordering
Send us your wording and any photo you would like to use, along with the number of cards, or call in and we will go through it with you. The layout is free when we print the job, and you will see a proof first. We can use the design from the order of service if we printed it. Printing usually takes little time, and we can deliver cards within the UK for a quoted charge if you would rather not travel.
Questions we hear about thank you cards
When should funeral thank you cards be sent?
There is no fixed rule. Many families send them within a couple of months, but people will understand if it takes longer.
What should I write in a funeral thank you card?
A simple message of thanks for the person's kindness, flowers or donation is enough. Add a personal note where you can.
Can you match the order of service design?
Yes. If you have the file or a printed copy, we can use the same photo and style.
Can I write on the cards by hand?
Yes. Uncoated or matt cards take pen ink well, and we can leave space for a note.
