Advertise on your vehicle, without committing to it

Magnetic signs are flexible printed sheets that stick to a vehicle's flat steel panels. They suit sole traders, driving instructors, carers, couriers and anyone else using a personal car for work. You can take them off at the end of the day so your car is not a moving advert during family trips or parked at home. They are also handy if a vehicle is leased.

Will it stick to my van or car?

Test the panel with a fridge magnet first. Aluminium and plastic panels, which are increasingly common on modern vehicles, will not hold a magnet. Avoid curved areas, deep ridges and panels with vinyl lettering or trim, since air gets under the sign's edges. If your vehicle's panels are not suitable, look at our vehicle stickers.

Looking after it

Magnetic signs need a little care to stay safe and to protect your paintwork:

  • Clean the panel and the magnet before putting it on, since trapped grit can scratch.
  • Lay it flat without creases, and make sure that all edges are stuck down.
  • Take it off regularly, ideally every few days, to clean under it and let the paint breathe.
  • Store it flat, or on a steel surface, rather than rolled tightly or in a hot car.
  • Take it off before using a car wash, and take care at motorway speeds if the fit is not perfect.

Designing for a moving vehicle

People see your sign for a few seconds at most. Your trade, phone number and a short web address are about all that will register. Use bold, plain type with strong contrast. A clear "Plumber" or "Driving Lessons" often does more than a clever logo. If you use a personal car for work, check with your insurer, as you may need business-use cover.

Sizes

Common sizes are around 300 x 200 mm for small cars, and 600 x 300 mm for doors and vans. Measure the flat part of your door, avoiding handles and creases. Rounded corners can help stop the corners from lifting. We can print pairs for the doors on either side, usually with the same artwork.

Ordering

Send us your wording, your logo and your door's measurements, and we can set up the design free of charge when we print. Add some matching business cards so that people who note your number have something to hold on to at the end of the job.

Questions we hear about magnetic signs

Will magnetic signs work on any vehicle?

Only on flat steel panels. Aluminium and plastic panels will not hold a magnet, so test with a fridge magnet first.

Can magnetic signs damage paintwork?

They can if grit gets trapped or they stay on for long periods. Clean the panel and the sign regularly and take it off every few days.

Can I leave them on when driving on a motorway?

Good-quality signs on a clean, flat panel should hold, but always check them first, and remove them if an edge is lifting.

What should I put on a magnetic sign?

Keep it to your trade, a phone number and perhaps a short website address, in large, high-contrast lettering.
