Printed greeting cards from your own artwork

Whether you are an artist selling cards at a market, a shop adding your own range, or someone who wants a really personal birthday card, we can print short runs. Greeting cards are also a good way of turning a favourite photograph or a child's drawing into something special. You can order one card or a few hundred.

Common sizes

Finished size Envelope
A6 (105 x 148 mm) C6
A5 (148 x 210 mm) C5
150 x 150 mm square Square, usually 155 x 155 mm
DL (99 x 210 mm) DL

Square cards look stylish, but UK postage can be more expensive for large or unusually shaped cards. If you plan to post in bulk, compare postage costs at the design stage.

Card and finishes

A 300 to 350gsm board feels like a real greeting card, and it holds its shape on a mantelpiece. Uncoated board is easy to write on, so it is a good choice for most cards. Silk or gloss brings out colour and photos, but pens may smudge on it. If you plan to write inside a coated card, ask for an uncoated inside. Cards need scoring before folding, which stops the board from cracking along the crease, particularly where a design has dark colours across the fold.

Artists and makers

If you are selling your own cards, a few details can help:

  • Include your name or logo and website on the back.
  • Include a barcode if you plan to sell to shops, as many retailers require one.
  • Print at the correct size with 3 mm of bleed.
  • Check that scans or photos of your artwork show the correct colours. A test card is a good way to check this before printing a big batch.
  • Buy clear protective sleeves, as cards get handled a lot at markets.

Printing from your own photo or drawing

A clear, high-resolution photo works best. For a child's drawing, bring in the original, and we can scan it and set up the card free of charge when we print. Many people turn a favourite photo into a birthday, anniversary or thank-you card.

Copyright

Please make sure you own the rights to the design you want to print, or that you have permission. Photos of people may also need permission if you plan to sell the cards. We cannot print images of well-known characters or brands without a licence.

Ordering

Send your artwork and tell us the size, card type and how many you need. We can add a message inside. Small runs can often be printed quickly and, with a ready file, same-day printing may be possible. Phone with your deadline, and remember to order envelopes along with your cards. For seasonal orders, see Christmas cards.

Questions we hear about greeting cards

What card is best for greeting cards?

A 300 to 350gsm board feels right. Choose uncoated if you plan to write on it.
