The small things on the table

Napkins, cutlery wraps, stirrers, cake flags and table numbers are small details that can make a table look thought through. Bars and cafes use them for branding, wedding couples use them for a personal touch, and party planners use them to tie a theme together.

Popular items

  • Printed paper napkins, often in 2-ply or 3-ply, in dinner or cocktail size
  • Cutlery wallets or wraps for restaurants, wedding breakfasts and takeaways
  • Table numbers and names in card or board, on a stand
  • Cake flags and cocktail picks, for bakeries and parties
  • Stirrers and straws for bars and cafes, subject to the rules on single-use plastic
  • Reserved signs and tent cards, which overlap with our table talkers

Napkin sizes

Cocktail napkins are about 24 x 24 cm unfolded, and they are usually used with drinks and canapés. Lunch napkins are about 33 x 33 cm, and dinner napkins are around 40 x 40 cm. A 3-ply napkin feels softer and is more absorbent than a 2-ply. Colours affect the cost and the look: white is the cheapest and takes print best, while pale colours work well with dark print. Dark napkins need different inks, so check before you order.

Printing on soft materials

Tissue is absorbent, so inks spread slightly. Keep designs bold with simple lines, and avoid fine text. Print is generally limited to a corner, so plan your logo or wording around this space. For wedding napkins, names and a date are usually enough, and simple line art works well. Full-colour photo designs are harder to achieve on tissue, though they can be a good match on a heavier paper or a linen-feel napkin.

Weddings and parties

Personalised items can add a lot for very little money. Think about a matching set of napkins, place cards, heart stickers and table numbers. Consider where you are spending your money. Things people photograph, such as table numbers and a welcome sign, may matter more than items that are soon discarded.

Order sizes and timing

Printed napkins are usually sold in boxes or packs and may have a minimum quantity. Card-based items, such as table numbers and cake flags, can usually be made in small quantities, sometimes quite quickly. Tell us which items you need, as they may come from different suppliers and may have different lead times.

Ordering

Send us your logo or wording, your colours and your date, and we will suggest what makes the most sense. Artwork is set up free of charge when we print. If you are planning a wedding or a big event, ordering several items at once can make it easier to match the colours and style.

Questions we hear about table accessories

What is the minimum order for printed napkins?

Usually a box or pack size, depending on the type. Tell us your quantity and we will confirm the options.

Can you print a photo on a napkin?

Tissue absorbs ink, so detailed photos are difficult. Bold logos and simple line art usually look better.

Can you print table numbers for a wedding?

Yes. They can be printed on card or board, and we can match them to the rest of your stationery.

Are printed stirrers and straws allowed?

Many single-use plastic stirrers and straws are restricted in England. Ask us about paper or wooden alternatives.
